On February 5, 2026, President Donald Trump announced the launch of TrumpRx.gov, a federally run website designed to help Americans access discounted cash prices on select prescription medications. Specifically, the White House Fact Sheet states that patients now will be able to access major discounts on many of the most popular and expensive drugs in the country, paying amounts in line with the lowest paid by other developed nations (also known as the most-favored-nation, or “MFN”, price).
The White House highlights in its news release that the platform includes large savings on popular GLP-1 drugs, as well as discounts on medications used for infertility, asthma, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”), among others. While TrumpRx can provide significant savings, the discounts are available only to cash-paying patients. Thus, the value depends on the individual’s insurance coverage and prescription needs. For those individuals with insurance, their standard copay may still be lower than a cash-pay price. The discounts offered through TrumpRx can neither be used with health insurance nor applied toward insurance deductibles.
The initial launch included drugs from the first five manufacturers to reach MFN pricing agreements with the Trump administration: AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer. Additional medications from more companies are expected to be added in the coming months. Importantly, at this stage, TrumpRx.gov does not sell or dispense medications directly. Patients can use coupon codes displayed on TrumpRx.gov at participating pharmacies or follow links to the manufacturers’ websites for direct offers. A valid prescription is still necessary. As discussed above, all TrumpRx purchases are cash-pay only and do not apply to deductibles, out of pocket maximums or insurance tracking.
According to the website’s instructions, patients must first confirm that they are not enrolled in a government insurance program—such as Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap, TRICARE, VA or any state or federal assistance program—and that they will not seek reimbursement for the out-of-pocket cost or apply it toward a deductible. After doing so, they obtain a coupon to present at a participating pharmacy or are redirected to the drug manufacturer’s website to complete the process.
While most Americans have health insurance and may not need to rely on TrumpRx, the following may benefit:
- Uninsured individuals
- Members of high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), particularly those who have not met their deductible and may be unlikely to do so
- People prescribed medications with limited or no insurance coverage
- Individuals seeking specialty treatments that most insurance plans do not cover
In addition, the impact of MFN pricing remains uncertain, and in some cases, insured prices may be lower. Before using the discounts available on TrumpRx, it would be beneficial to analyze the medications listed on TrumpRx to determine if the cash price is lower than what an individual would pay through their insurance.
For more details, visit the TrumpRx website to review the FAQ section and stay informed as new drugs are added. The site also offers an option to sign up for email alerts, allowing users to receive notifications when new medications or pricing updates become available.
Action items
- Recognize that TrumpRx is not a substitute for an employer-sponsored health plan; rather, it may serve as an alternative payment option in situations where its direct-to-consumer pricing is more advantageous for certain individuals.
- Communicate to employees that TrumpRx purchases are a cash-pay option that do not count towards insurance deductibles or maximum out-of-pocket limits.
- Educate employees so that they understand when a cash-pay option may be helpful or when going the traditional route, through insurance, is more beneficial.
- Monitor direct-to-consumer prices on TrumpRx, PBM pricing and contract terms.
